DIY Honey Face Mask

DO you ever feel like your face could use a little extra TLC? But not sure what products to use? Here is a quick and simple recipe that uses two ingredients that you likely already have in your kitchen: honey and sea salt (or himalayan salt).

Honey2

This is such a simple way to freshen up your complexion, and give you that natural glow, without using any harsh chemicals. As a nutritionist, I’m super picky about what I put on my face, because our skin absorbs products almost that same as if we had eaten it! So rubbing chemicals all over my skin just scares me!

Plus, this face mask and exfoliator is so easy to make, and saves a ton of money – it works better than the expensive store bought products, and it’s 100% natural (and organic if you use organic ingredients!)

Here’s the recipe:

  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp sea salt or himalayan salt NOTE: make sure that it is fine or extra fine, if you use medium or course grade salt it will be too abrasive for your face!

Mix together in a bowl, and add more honey if you prefer a thinner mask, or more sea salt if you prefer a thicker mask. My favorite is a 1:1 ratio, but you might prefer something a bit different!

It will look something like this:

Then, just put it on your face for about 20 minutes. I like to lightly rub it in to get a bit of an exfoliation. The honey will moisturize your skin, and it’s also anti-bacterial so it is great for all skin types! The salt helps to draw impurities out of your skin and also helps to balance the PH.

When you take off the scrub, gently use a washcloth to rub it off – it will exfoliate your skin and leave you with a wonderful natural glow!

I use this about once a week, or whenever my skin feels like it needs a gentle ‘pick me up’. What are your favorite natural skincare tips? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
